    Hello Saad,

Nice post. The one thing to keep in mind while building link from any site is that how many links are going out to from that site to other site or blogs. Because if the quantity of outgoing links are more from where you making link for your site will be not as good as if you are making a link from site which have very few outgoing links.

You’ll get very high link juice and pr juice, if site have low number of out going links. So keep this in mind, always check how many outgoing links the site have from where you are making link for your site… :)

  8. says

Getting listed in DMOZ is now a days luck and Yahoo Directory is paid directory. I like other points that you shared about PR.

Ammar please checkout this tool: Free Online SEO Tool, it’ll help you to check PR, Alexa, number of backlinks, Google Last Crawl date and many other factors. Thanks.

  9. says

Google loves content and they like it freshly baked. Having fresh new content on your website or blog every now and then is the right way to show Google that your blog is active. It will also help you get a lot more traffic because people loves to see new things. On the other hand, posting everyday will help but is mostly ineffective and a hassle for your daily life. It will be better if you stick to a schedule to post your articles. That way you will be able to manage SEO and other things instead of focusing on content because content is only one of the factors for Page Rank and there are other things that you need to do like SEO and Social Media.

  16. says

    Nice tips.
    I have one question though…
Does commenting on the sites really increase your backlinks or it will only affect if it is a “do-follow” link?

  17. Usama says

It’s great to see my fellow Pakistanis doing great stuff online. Keep it up Ammar and nice post Saad. One thing I want to add here is that always try to follow niche. Blogging on too many topics might leads to scattered keywords and be careful with your external links.
Marketing is the key to a blog’s success. Indeed Google search traffic is the lifeline but for a healthy growing community you need to look beyond SEO and into SMO.
Cheers. Have a look at my blog if you’re a tech lover.

  18. says

I 100% agree that content is a king. However 1 question Bother me a lot. My question here is how Google counts quality content as it is a subjective thing and not some thing quantitative like number of backlinks that can be counted by softwears? Do their employees examine the content themselves or any other tactics?

    • says

Well Adil . Content Quality is something that Google Has Learned with time . quality can be checked in many ways. for example it will compare the content with other website’s to check its uniqueness and will check if it has two many links that will weaken its quality and then if it has a unique title or not.

  19. says

  23. Gautam says

Google Stopped giving priority to Backlinks from Article Directories as they include lots of duplicate content and spun articles. Instead of Submitting posts to Article Directories, it is good to write high quality posts and submit to High PR blogs as guest post.

  24. Gautam says

hi Saad, nice and informative post in last pagerank update many new sites got higher ranking compare to old sites and i think traffic and quality also measure for pagerank algorithm.

    Hi Saad ,

You are providing such nice information here and I will apply these tips on my site. Thank you so much for sharing with us

  32. says

Well having good PR feels better. But I dont think Google gives it more importance in its algorithm.
As you said PR can be increased with high number of backlinks, almost true. I feel to rank better(SERP) we need better quality of links, may be just few.

  33. says

My blog is almost entirely about undiscovered YouTube talent (or people who haven’t figured out where they should be focusing their talents) so most of my posts consist of YouTube videos. It’s not easy getting the page rank up with that little to go by seeing as I can’t exactly guest blog or submit my blog to article hosts.

    Any ideas :D

  34. says

It is a good tips to increase page rank.
I have been searching on how to increase my site trend2style.com to PR2. now it is PR1.
    Thank you.

  35. mathew says

With comment luv you get two links – one in the name and one in the article title below. Google only lets you have one backlink per URL so which does Google choose? You would think Google would crawl the top link first and go down the page because seo techniques always say to make sure you do things in the first paragraph because Google sees this first. So, which link does Google see? is commentluv a waste of time other than people clicking and it driving traffic that way?

  36. says

Great article on increasing google page rank. Can you please what the difference between page rank and keyword ranking? When I check keyword ranking – many cases shows that yahoo and Bing has good ranking 4 to 5 but google did not given any rank. How does google do the ranking?

  37. says

Awesome tips. I’ve been trying to get my page rank to increase myself and I think I’ll try guest blogging soon. I have doubts though about link exchange. I heard websites are being penalized because of this.

  38. Ethel says

Is it possible for high quality content alone to drive the site’s page rank nowadays? It seems that a combination of all your tips is necessary. Thank you for sharing.

    Thanks my friend

  41. jomaraban says

I am really impressed with the way you write your articles. I also have my own blog
href=”http://clixsensetutorials.blogspot.com”>blog but the pagerank is still 0. My articles are all original and unique but my page rank is still not increasing. I will try to follow all your suggestions and I hope it would work! :)

  42. says

Interesting post. I have seen a lot of sites with completely different PR. Some with 80 posts and a PR 2 whereas some with 20000 posts but still a PR2. Why is there such a huge range? is there any particular metric we can use to improve our PR?

    • says

Kevin actually the number of posts makes a very little difference in PR . i have also seen blogs with only 2 posts but there PR : 3 or Maybe more . PR depends on quality of the post . its possible that those 2 posts get more traffic then those 20000 posts because of there low quality . I Hope that answers your question . A good measure of website is Domain Authority :)

  43. says

Nice post mate. Concerning Jeremy’s comment, YouTube is a great way to increase PR. What I am currently doing is building up my you tube channel PR by posting comments on high PR videos in order to transfer their link juice to my channel, as all these links are do follow.

  44. says

Nice and informative article as all on this site, my page rank has dropped on this updation, i’m new blogger and want accent, so i’m going to follow all those points as much i can.
    thanks once again

  45. says

i would like to point, whatever directory you have suggested in your blog, is commercial and charges amount from $ 100-300, that means Google page rank will be improved after spending some money, but another way Google sys that we do not accept money to get your content at higher rank,
indirectly this is contradiction for me, can you suggest some more sites that do it on free bases.

  46. says

    Hi Saad Asad,
I am agree with your points, specially I like your points that says guest posting and keep updating. Updating blog frequently our blog live in search engine and thus we are getting pagerank easily. Guest posting is link building method, I generally prefer blog commenting in link buliding method however sometimes I write guest post on some blogs.

    Great post, thanks for sharing!!

  51. Jason Faughnan says

I think social media is now playing a much more important part of the whole PR and ranking system. But if you keep things simple like creating quality and engaging content, no spamming (or spammers on your site) and create yourself to be an authority in your niche then you will be well on the way to a good PR.

  52. Daniel Van Helden says

I have had my site up and running for about two months. I just got ranked with dmoz at a 2.5. I am guest blogging for another website too. In your opinion how am I doing for a site that is fairly new?

  53. says

I would like to add to those wonderful!!! tips that also how old a site is also matters. I think that google will increase pagerank to older web-sites and in “some way” seems that old websites still updating their content will take a “higher” pagerank than earlier websites. This factor -unfortunately- cannot be beaten.

  54. says

Really, i’m amazing about this great article, i was looking for complete guide and i found all information here in one article. thanks again

PR Matters because if you have a high PR your website articles and posts get indexed more quickly then a website with low PR .PR matters because it can help you in making money of your blog most advertising companies prefer high PR blogs rather then Low PR

    • says

Vidushi By Creating multiple pages I mean that when ever you create a page in your website it creates an internal link to your website. So if you have lot of internal links then it would increase your backlinks in total which will eventually increase your Page Rank . Take of it as this way . more links in your site pointing to your site = Greater Chance of getting good PR :)

  57. says

i think writing original content will boost our page rank without enough back links,as per seo experiences back links just for article serp boosting. but we can see some website with high pr without enough content and less back link…now thanks for this tips

  58. says

I like the article, I follow most of the stuff there. I have a question Facebook now has rank for fan pages, some pages like Lady Gaga’s have a pagerank of 8 and all the way down to 0 So, If I get a lot of facebook likes using a site like the one here Like4Like.org will it pass the page rank back to my site because of links I have put in place?

    • says

No Not Really Because Websites like Facebook don’t give do-follow back link so it doesn’t really matter much :) but it will still help you drive more traffic :)

  59. says

    Great information on seo,

You did not mention low obl, and it’s importance to commenting on blogs, it’s better to use sites that are well moderated, because that way it teaches us to read the whole article and make our comments useful.

This way you should get a link back?

    Mick

  60. says

Hi Saad, would you happen to know how often backlinkwatch.com updates itself? And when you mentioned that Google actually updates its page rank analysis 3 to 4 times a year, this really explains why my SEO work seems to have no results all these past weeks. So Google only updates its page rank analysis just a few times a year. Ok, so perhaps my SEO backlinking work is going to have real results the next time around.. *fingers crossed.

Good morning, I am new to the whole page rank thing. I Googled “how to improve your page rank” and came across your posting. I found it very informative. I wish I had your skills. Pretty darn smart for a 16 yr old! I am going to try some of your tips and keep you posted on the results. Thank you for putting this information out there for people like me. It seems like a never ending confusing process for the novice. I have a relatively new site that specializes in flexographic printing plates, which is a pretty niche and onscure market. Being that the site is less than 6 months old, I naturally I have “0” page rank. I do not want to get swallowed up into cyberspace’s “no mans land” Lets see what happens. Be well, thanks again Mike

Your tips are very well explained. You mentioned on #5 – to keep updating the website. Just not sure if pinging is a good idea after updating and making changes to the site! Anybody know if pinging is good or bad? Thanks.

    • says

Pinging, I think the author maybe referring to sitemaps.xml that search engines require on a regular basis. The sitemaps.xml contains a roadmap of website pages for bots to crawl through and index. A sitemap is usually generate by website authors.
Pinging is refreshing data to and from a client & server. Kinda mostly related to multiplayer gaming, correct me if I’m wrong or not clear enough though.

Thank you for providing some great tips on Google’s page rank update. However, I have already used most of the tips that you suggested here. But I still couldn’t find a way out to increase the page rank. I am just stuck in PR-03 for around a year. Can you write something about how many authority backlinks required to upgrade from PR-03 to PR-04?

Thanks Saad, you just pointed out one of my weakest issues. Well, I really have a few poor posts in my blog. So I think first of all I should rewrite those contents in a SEO friendly manner. Thanks again:)

Good post Ammar, Quality of the link matters than the quantity one simple point. I am not sure whether frequent posting increases the page rank and also do you have any idea that domain age relates anyway to page rank? I can see few 4 months old domain gets PR3-4.

This post is fantastic. However, I read many blog articles suggesting not to use CommentLuv as a way of getting backlinks. Their main argument being that most blogger felt annoyed that only people greedy to get backlinks would come and comment, therefore removing the plug-ins from their website. This would remove all backlinks gained this way… What is your take on this issue? How do you envision the future of CommentLuv?

  96. says

According to my knowledge there are 3 major factors to increase page rank. First one is high quality fresh and unique content on your blog or website. It is first and important factor to increase your blog page rank.

Second factor is backlinks, where from you are getting backlinks for your blog or website. What is the value of website where from you are getting backlinks.

Last one is Guest posting. Its true that guest posting play a very important role to increase page rank of your blog.

I don’t care what are using others. I am using this one and it is really effective and useful for me.

I know that Page Rank seems to be a dying metric, but it is certainly one that I enjoy working on. I think it is the challenge of it? Kind of like a quest or a mission :)

I think your tips to increase page rank were right on the money although I had not considered web advertising. That is a new tip for me.

    Thank, Saad!

Thank you for your post,I have had my website for almost 3 years now,i have tryed all the above and not a thing worked,do not waste your time and money!
my page rank still 0 even though my alexa rank is 280.ooo which is very good and I get some google traffic but only thing that would work is by getting traffic, traffic = page rank.
you can get traffic and page rank by having your banner or your do follow link on high pr sites,(relevant is better then not) .
note: my site has over 1400 link from all over high pr site (free sites)!
    good luck.

I agree with Pillar Joe 200%. I think it is actually a waste in most cases. I have tried numerous times to run AdWords accounts on my few sites. It was my theory (hope) that if I were to drive traffic to my site through Adwords, then this may translate into more “credibility” to my organic growth rankings. It has never done anything except empty my pockets. I would stay away from AdWords unless you have deep pockets. My 2 cents

I Would like to add one more point in this. The content and the outbound links. If your website is having quality content for readers and it is linked to other valuable website then your page will get a good search engine ranking. Google wants to help all so by helping the similar topic website by linking their website on your website will generate value for users. I would recommend if you have a blog and want to rank well on search engine use out bound linking strategy.

Thanks so much for sharing this information. I am a new blogger and have been unsure how Page Rank worked. Now I have a better understanding of page rank and how to increase it. Thank you again :)

  108. Waqar says

I see a lot of people who just start a blog and immediately start running after getting a high PR, and in their attempts thy often unknowingly perform methods which actually bring their blog down instead of ranking them high. I believe, in beginning, everyone’s primary focus should be ‘Adding quality content on their blog’ and sharing with friends and on social media. Then come the next steps.

  109. Kyle Stevens says

Thanks a lot for the wonderful post. Sometime, I see many blogs which are many years old with no page rank, it really gets me wondering, therefore I would like to know how long it takes before Google Updates the page rank of a blog. Or is it totally upto their choice and descretion to give page rank to a blog.

  110. Shruti says

I find people targeting keywords that have a high volume without taking into consideration if these keywords will convert. Often it makes sense to target a lower volume and less competitive keyword, that has a higher conversion rate, than one that has high volume, but is super competitive and has a low conversion rate.

In answer to your second question.

Firstly, I find most sites are often happy to link to you if they have mentioned you on their site. It makes for a better user experience.

Google isn’t as simple as it used to be, where it would divide all link juice by the number of links on the page. I think relevant links can actually help your site.

Let’s use an analogue, just because you make a new friend (link), it doesn’t mean that your existing friends are worth less.

Thank you for this is an incredible post for new sites wanting to build on back links and page rank. I never cared about back links until I noticed that it allows you to rank better on search engines. I have several blogs and am trying to improve back linking and page rank on all of them to maximize my traffic sources.

    Thanks again!

  112. says

This is great info – but one word of warning on guest posts – make sure they are relevant to your site content and if possible, from a site in a related category. Let’s keep the end goal of having Google like you in mind: to get more traffic and ultimately, convert more. A random link from an unrelated site is going to do a lot less for you than something in a similar keyword family.

  113. says

Totally agree! Well said.. there are many factors which make up Pagerank and Google seems to be changing the playing field several times per year… sometime it is hard to keep up!

    Thanks.

It’s because pagerank is not only dependent on backlinks Plus google is weird so you can never be sure exactly what is happening . I would suggest you try focusing on other things and not just backlinks :)

      • says

This is exactly the way I am beginning 2014 Saad… by not focusing as much time on backlinks, and more time on quality content.

Example: I have a site that I spend like no time on…. zero, nada!! And it ranks on page #1 of Google for huge terms like “edu backlinks” and “cheap edu backlinks”. (http://cheapedubacklinks.net/) check it out.

Seriously I built it, did some on-page SEO and forgot about it. Meanwhile I am spending a lot of money, time, and energy focusing on a few other sites that a huge PR4+ backink profile, linkwheel, as well as linked to many .edu and .gov sites…. BUT site on page 10 or greater for it’s keywords.

Google is weird, and keeps changing the playing field, and I hate it lol !!!!

something we have to adopt and work with, they are pretty much the only store in town right or the search engine that most users go to when searching for pretty much any brand, service, or business.

So thanks, I agree, try other things other than beating your head on the proverbial backlinks wall :)

Thanks for the 15 valuable tips Saad. For a young man like you, this post really reflects you a real talent. While I agree most of your tips are very helpful, I’m not quite sure about tips #5 (keep updating). I consider myself hardworking who updated my website 4 or 5 contents daily. But my website is still ranking Zero, while my competitor websites, which haven’t been update for weeks, still manage to get PR 2??? I really don’t get it.

I also have a little set back on Link Exchange. I did research and found out many bad feedback on link exchange. However, I’ll give it a try and hopefully my site will get re-evaluate after 3 months..just like you said :)

Thanks again for sharing these to us.

    Cheers,
    Kent.

I’ve found over the years that the easiest way to achieve a high PR is though great content. All the other SEO strategies listed here play an important role, but at the end of the day it’s about user engagement, and that only comes with great content.

    Hello Saad,
Awesome list of tips to increase page rank. Goolge PR is impotent for blog and website to show people, client and company, Page rank is say that people like your page and content. And backlink and content is most impotent to get good PR from google :) . Thank for sharing this article with us bro i defiantly try this tips. i hope its helpful for me :)

Many of us focus so much on good keywords and backlinking that we forget about the importance of good content. I agee with you that you can target certain keywords or gain backlinks day after day, but at the end of the day if your content is crap you won’t get very far.
It is important I believe that as a blogger we incorporate the total package. You have outlined some of the most important aspects of SEO that we should be focused on.

  120. says

Dear Saad, What if i add all the high quality post links ( ie the post /pages having higher page rank, as google award each post and pages a unique page rank and most of the time bloggers avoid this well known fact ) from my site on my home page. Do you think it would help me to scale page rank on next Google update.
